University of Queensland Pharmacy School head Associate Professor Susan Tett has won the Ishidate Award for Pharmacy Research.

The award, consisting of a medal and US$1000, is made by the Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations and recognises outstanding contributions to pharmacy research. Dr Tett is the first Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA) member to win the award.

During her career, Dr Tett has won pharmacy research grants valued at more than $1 million and her research findings have contributed significantly to the development of Australian pharmacy and patient care.

Dr Tett's research interests focus on the quality use of medication for groups such as transplant recipients and people with rheumatoid arthritis.

'I am very proud to have won the award. I certainly hope this encourages other pharmacists to become more closely involved in research which benefits patient care and the pharmacy profession,' Dr Tett said.
