Distinguished orators to discuss the Constitution at UQ Public Lecture

Three distinguished orators will speak on People of Any Race, a phrase from the Australian Constitution, at a University of Queensland public lecture in the Abel Smith Lecture Theatre at 7.30pm on Tuesday, October 28.

Professor Bruce Rigsby of the Anthropology and Sociology Department will speak on The Concept of Race and Professor Gabriel Moens of the School of Law will speak on The History of People of Any Race in the Constitution.

Professor Moens is the director of the Australian Institute of Foreign and Comparative Law and president of the Australian Society of Legal Philosophy. Professor Rigsby's academic interests include linguistic anthropology and Australian Aboriginal studies.

Brisbane barrister Greg Koppenol, junior counsel for the State Government in the Mabo II and Wik cases, will discuss From Mabo to Wik.

Justice Peter Connolly, QC, who headed the Connolly/Ryan inquiry into the Criminal Justice Commission, will act as interlocutor.

Light refreshments will be provided, following the Alumni Open Mind lecture, organised by the University's Alumni Association.
