Queensland Cotton names its inaugural International Exchange Scholar
A University of Queensland Gatton College student has been awarded the inaugural Queensland Cotton International Student Exchange Scholarship.
Kate Taylor, a 19-year-old bachelor of business (agribusiness) student has been selected to attend Texas A&M University next semester as part of her agribusiness studies.
Ms Taylor has a rural background. Her parents have a cattle property at Augathella and she attended Concordia College in Toowoomba.
"I'm thrilled to be the Queensland Cotton International Scholar and to have the opportunity to continue my studies overseas," she said.
Queensland Cotton's CEO Richard Haire said that the International Student Exchange Scholarship was a tangible way in which his company could contribute to the education and training of the future leaders of Australian agribusiness.
"Queensland Cotton has had a long association with the University of Queensland Gatton College and employs many of its graduates. This is an investment in our future," he said.
"Queensland Cotton has made a commitment to fund the two-way exchange program for the next five years."
University of Queensland agribusiness course coordinator Associate Professor Tony Dunne said that the $6000 scholarship was a great opportunity for students whose future careers were closely linked with international business to experience University life in an overseas country.
"These opportunities would not be feasible in many cases without the generous support of companies such as Queensland Cotton," he said.
