The University of Queensland will expand its Courses and Careers Day postgraduate emphasis this year with a special event for people considering postgraduate study.
For the first time, the University will hold a special Courses and Careers Day at its St Lucia campus. On August 2 from 4pm to 7pm, Mayne Hall will be buzzing with faculties and departments offering postgraduate course information and sessions will be held in Forgan Smith Building room E109 and Parnell Building room 173.
This event complements the University's regular Courses and Careers Day, this year to be held on August 1 at Mayne Hall, St Lucia, when staff will be on hand to assist people seeking information about undergraduate and postgraduate opportunities at the University.
The University of Queensland - Australia's 1998-99 University of the Year - is one of the nation's leading postgraduate providers and one of the top two nationally for PhD completions.
The University envisages that 25 percent of all UQ students will be studying for a postgraduate qualification within the next few years.
The postgraduate Courses and Careers event on August 2 will feature information about the full range of postgraduate studies-from Graduate Certificates to the Doctor of Philosophy, from coursework Masters to the newly introduced Professional Doctorates.
Deputy Director of the UQ Graduate School and Dean of Postgraduate Students Associate Professor Alan Lawson said postgraduate studies were an increasingly important part of UQ's offerings and the expanded Courses and Careers Day focus was both timely and exciting.
"A report from the Graduate Careers Council of Australia released late last year shows that postgraduates have better employment and salary outcomes than bachelor degree graduates," he said.
Staff at the August 2 Postgraduate Courses and Careers event will include representatives of the UQ Graduate School, seven UQ Faculties, University departments and schools, the University's Scholarships Office, PhD Admissions section, and Student Support Services.
Speakers will include faculty representatives, the University's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Paul Greenfield and Dr Lawson, who will highlight the University's key research areas and the range of postgraduate qualifications students can undertake at UQ.
