Non-smoking men and women aged 60 years and over are needed for a UQ breathing study.
Participants must have no histories of respiratory, cardiovascular or neurological conditions and are needed as a control group for a study investigating the usefulness of respiratory exercises.
Participation will involve a single, two-hour visit to UQ’s Physiotherapy Division.
Markers will be placed on the volunteers’ chest walls after which they will breathe through a special mouthpiece with some resistance for one minute up to eight times.
According to PhD student Angela Chang from the Physiotherapy Division, the study will help understand the effects of resisted breathing exercises on chest movement in people with and without respiratory diseases.
