Attending Open Day at The University of Queensland’s Ipswich Campus is easier this year due to the new day and timing of the event.
The 2008 Ipswich Open Day will be held on Wednesday, August 20 from 3.30-7.30pm at the campus grounds, located at 11 Salisbury Road, Ipswich.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Alan Rix said the Campus changed the timing and day of the week for the event in an attempt to better cater for the needs of prospective students and parents who in the past had found it difficult to attend the annual Open Day.
“We have found that many parents and students are otherwise occupied on weekends, with sporting, work or family commitments,” Professor Rix said.
“As a result, the Ipswich Campus Open Day will be held mid-week, on a Wednesday afternoon, to allow prospective students and their families the opportunity to come to campus at a time that does not conflict with their busy weekend schedules.”
Open Day is a great opportunity for prospective students, their families and friends to gain an insight into tertiary study and what it means to be a student at the UQ Ipswich Campus.
Attend presentations, mini-lectures and tours, speak to staff and students about careers, study options and student life and take part in a variety of fun games and activities.
Other highlights include a free barbecue for all, games and competitions and information for parents to learn how they can assist their child through tertiary study.
Professor Rix said Open Day was the perfect time for interested students to visit the campus and experience the superb learning environment and state-of-the-art facilities.
“Current students will be on-hand to provide an insight into life as a UQ Ipswich student and University staff will provide information about our program offerings and career opportunities,” he said.
“It is an opportunity to visit the cafes, enjoy the displays and get a feel for campus life.”
Free buses will run every 30 minutes between the Ipswich Railway Station and the Campus and free parking will be available on Campus all day.
