The University of Queensland (UQ) will support the Queensland Government’s Q2 plan with high-quality education and research, and partnerships with industry and communities.
Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor David Siddle, said UQ was keen to play a role in bringing about a more educated, healthy, environmentally-sustainable, prosperous and community-minded state by 2020.
“UQ has had a role in building this State for almost 100 years, and we’d be delighted to be part of community efforts to make Queensland a more positive place in which to live, learn, work and invest,” Professor Siddle said.
“It is great to see an explicit focus on increasing the proportion of young people who finish year 12, as the basis for progressing to post-school qualifications.
“Likewise, the aim of increased business involvement in research and development (R&D) is very welcome. UQ is seeking to expand and deepen its links with business and industry and to develop strategic partnerships in research and innovation.
“We will also be a very willing partner in reaching the goals regarding health, the environment and community cohesion.
“The goals are intertwined, and each will be most effectively achieved if communities are well-educated, if excellent R&D thrives, and if the positive outcomes of research are made available to communities,” Professor Siddle said.
