Top Gatton students rewarded at prizes evening

Outstanding science students based at UQ's Gatton campus were recognised for their achievements at a scholarships and prizes dinner last week.

Held at the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre, the event was the perfect setting for both UQ and the community to recognise diverse student achievements.

Both individuals and companies donated a range of scholarships and prizes to provide study, travel and field work opportunities for students from the School of Agriculture and Food Sciences and the School of Veterinary Science.

Final year Veterinary Science student Julia Dowsett, winner of the John Ryley Memorial Prize in Pig Medicine, said the evening was a wonderful and generous way of recognising students’ hard work over many semesters.

“To have my hard work recognised by this prize means a lot to me and was in memory of Dr John Ryley who was an excellent veterinarian, a member of the UQ Senate and of the Veterinary Science Faculty Board," Ms Dowsett said.

“Prizes such as this one highlight the wonderful achievements of people who have come before us, and their legacy inspires us to achieve great things and to always strive for excellence."

Guests included Councillor Graeme Lehmann and Mrs Judy Lehmann, Councillor Graham Moon, and Member for Lockyer Ian Rickuss and Mrs Ann Rickuss.
