Businesses, investors and community organisations interested in innovations which aim to improve health outcomes for older Australians can learn more at a special UQ presentation next Monday.
UQ’s Faculty of Health Sciences and main commercialisation company, UniQuest, will showcase UQ's expertise in this growing segment of the health care industry at a special presentation at Customs House on Monday, June 23 from 5pm.
Guests from both biomedical science and financial organisations at this Health Partnerships for the Future event will hear speakers present on the latest research into clinical care of elderly patients, prostate cancer and interventions to help our aging population stay healthy through physical activity.
Ms Bonnie Pimm, Research Nurse in the UQ Academic Unit in Geriatric Medicine at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, will discuss the commercialisation of CeGA Online, a software focussed on improving the care of older people through e-health solutions that is now used in major Queensland hospitals.
Professor Martin Lavin from UQ’s School of Medicine will explain recent breakthrough discoveries in prostate cancer, which predominantly affects men over 50.
Dr Nick Gilson, lecturer in Human Movement Studies at UQ’s St Lucia campus and lead researcher for the International Universities Walking Project, will describe new intervention strategies that can effect behaviour change and impact on physiological/psycho-social health indicators.
The Executive Dean of UQ’s Faculty of Health Sciences, Professor Peter Brooks, said the event would highlight the connection between health sciences research and the economic possibilities for Queensland.
“Partnerships between health and business enterprises hold the key to potential medical breakthroughs, many of which will shape the future of global healthcare,” Professor Brooks said.
“This Health Partnerships for the Future showcase focuses on health issues that are relevant not just for people caring for our aging population in clinical settings, but also for potential investors looking to have a role in developing new technologies that will generate economic as well as health benefits.”
The event commences with refreshments from 5pm in the Art Gallery at Customs House, 399 Queen Street, Brisbane.
Places for this event are limited. To reserve seats, please contact UniQuest, UQ’s main commercialisation company, before Friday, June 20 by emailing rsvp@uniquest.com.au.
