The University of Queensland will hold its first University-wide staff engagement survey in August.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Greenfield said the survey of the University’s 6000 plus academic and general fixed term and continuing staff would give them the chance to have their say about the University’s planning for the future.
“We are hoping to better understand how staff think and feel about UQ,” he said.
“While some individual UQ divisions may have some of this knowledge, we don’t have that knowledge centrally as a University.
“The data will also help us to benchmark as a University our staff feedback against that of other organisations.
“We have engaged an independent group, The Voice Project at Macquarie University, to conduct the survey and compile results.
“They have conducted research in over 1500 other organisations and previously worked with 20 Australian universities.
“Using an external group will help us to maintain the anonymity and confidentiality of staff responses so people can provide honest feedback.”
Professor Greenfield said he had already received valuable staff feedback at campus-wide information sessions earlier this year.
The Staff Engagement Survey would be conducted between August 18 and September 5, both online and by paper survey.
Staff feedback would be sought in areas including leadership, teamwork, and job satisfaction; issues that affect job satisfaction; and overall effectiveness.
Professor Greenfield said results would be shared with staff when they became available.
“We hope to repeat this exercise in future so we can track improvements to our performance over time,” he said.
