Two students from The University of Queenslands TC Beirne School of Law have won the Australian Law Student Association (ALSA) National Client Interviewing Competition.
Angus OBrien, a fourth year Arts/Law student, and fifth year Economics/Law student James Green competed against 28 teams at the national finals held during the ALSA Conference in Tasmania recently.
UQ has reached the quarter-finals and semi-finals in previous years but this is the first time we are national champions, Mr O'Brien said.
Mr OBrien and Mr Green will represent Australia at the 2008-2009 Louis M Brown International Client Counselling Competition early next year.
UQ had teams represented in five of the six national competitions held during the ALSA conference thanks to the generous support of sponsors. UQ reached the semi-finals in the International Humanitarian Law Moot and quarter-finals in the Negotiation championships.
The interviewing competition is designed to simulate an initial meeting between a pair of solicitors and a new client. It encourages students to develop interviewing, planning and analytical skills in the lawyer-client relationship.
