Staff at The University of Queensland are passionate about their work, have very high levels of job satisfaction and are willing to put in extra effort regularly, according to results from a staff engagement survey.
The survey was conducted by the independent surveyor, Voice Project, in August and September last year and results were released recently.
UQ responses were very positive overall when benchmarked against 32 Australian and New Zealand universities that have undertaken comparable questionnaires. Results were also more positive than a previous UQ survey conducted in 2008.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry thanked all staff who responded to the survey, a total of 4,500 staff, giving a 57% response rate.
"This success is due to the dedication and commitment of people throughout UQ, whose work is reflected in the improvements made between the 2008 and 2011 reports.
"Overall, in 2011 there were perceived improvements in all areas surveyed. These include impressions that work practices and university performance are significantly better.
"Personally and as Vice-Chancellor, I am particularly encouraged that 87% of respondents were favourable about teamwork and 82% gave favourable ratings for job satisfaction. Both these areas show improvement since 2008 and are slightly better than the 32-univerisities benchmark.
"These independent results are further evidence of what we have long believed: that UQ is a world-class University for students and staff," she said.
The University will continue to build on improvements made following the 2008 survey.
