Nourish the mind and body at UQ Expo

High-tech research labs, drama, music, health and fitness checks and delicious food will be on the menu at the free UQ Expo in Brisbane on Saturday, May 29 and Sunday May 30.

More than 40,000 people are expected to attend UQ Expo at the University of Queensland's St Lucia campus from noon until 5pm both days.

Dean of Students Dr Lisa Gaffney said UQ Expo would offer family entertainment as well as displays and demonstrations of the University's outstanding research, teaching and community service features.

"From previous experience, we know that most people discover there's so much to see and do at UQ Expo they will want to come both days," she said.

Free activities and entertainment during UQ Expo include:

o High pressure explosions, magic mud, free popcorn and fairy floss, and bursting disks in the Chemical Engineering Department.

o A lie detector demonstration by School of Psychology researchers and bush tucker in the Hospitality, Tourism and Property Management display.

o Physical theatre group Zen Zen Zo performances of excerpts from Macbeth and performances by the 80-piece Queensland University Symphony Orchestra.

o Golf swing analysis in the Human Movement Studies Department, visits to the Small Animal Veterinary Clinic and Physiotherapy Department advice for back pain.

o Internet surfing in the "jelly bean lab" - the Interactive Learning Centre - and a mock trial conducted by the Law Student's Society in the Moot Court.

o Meeting members of the University's internationally famous SunShark solar vehicle team, the mighty robotic micromouse or learn how an electron microscope works.

o Valuable treasures in a host of University museums including the art history, anatomy, anthropology, antiquities, geology, physics and zoology museums.
