Computer security conference attracts international experts
More than 200 computer security response experts from 22 countries are expected to attend the 11th international FIRST conference on computer security incident handling and response in Brisbane next week.
The conference, the first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region, will be held from June 13 to 18 at the Hilton International. It is being organised locally by the University of Queensland and AusCERT (Australian Computer Emergency Response Team).
It is being sponsored by FIRST (the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams).
Director of Information Technology Services and AusCERT at the University of Queensland Nick Tate said it was a coup for the University to attract a conference of this calibre.
"Since November, 1988 an almost continuous stream of security-related incidents has affected thousands of computer systems and networks throughout the world. To address this threat, a growing number of government and private sector organizations around the globe have established a coalition to exchange information and coordinate response activities," he said.
AusCERT operational manager Eric Halil said the conference would focus on computer security and specifically incident handling and response. It would highlight the latest thinking in incident response and prevention, vulnerability analysis, and computer security.
Past conferences have been located in the U.S. (Pittsburgh, Pleasanton, Hearndon, Denver, St. Louis, Boston, and Santa Clara), Germany (Karlsruhe), England (Bristol) and Mexico (Monterrey).
