24 hour stop work
The University of Queensland has received advice of a proposed 24-hour stoppage by the academic staff union for Thursday, August 5, 1999.
University Secretary and Registrar Douglas Porter said the University would not be closing down. Past experience of such stoppages had shown that the great majority of classes would proceed as normal. He recommended that students assume that their classes would go ahead as scheduled unless they were told otherwise by their lecturer or department.
As the University has more than 2000 academic and research staff in faculties, schools, departments, sections and other centres on multiple sites, the extent to which University activities will be affected on Thursday cannot be predicted and will not be known until the day.
