New postgraduate law program leads to professional admission
The University of Queensland is offering an innovative postgraduate program this year for people who would like to be lawyers, but don't have law degrees.
Head of the T C Beirne School of Law Professor Tony Tarr said the Master of Legal Science program was available to non-law graduates.
"This exciting degree satisfies the academic qualifications for admission to the legal profession in Queensland and in other Australian States and Territories," he said.
"The degree includes 24 subjects which can be studied full-time or part-time, with many evening classes available. An advantage for full-time students is they can choose to complete the degree in three years or adopt the accelerated program and finish in 2.5 years."
Professor Tarr said the Master of Legal Science degree was a structured program, covering all subjects required for professional admission plus three elective subjects which could be chosen from a wide range of specialist areas of law.
"An attractive feature of this course is that it's open to graduates of any discipline," he said.
"Subjects integrate advocacy skills and professional legal skills, and classes are conducted by highly qualified academics who include winners of National and University Teaching Awards."
The program is tuition fee based.
