UQ offers non-degree fun courses for summer study

Take an intellectual holiday this summer and expand your knowledge in a fascinating range of fields, without the pressure of exams or assignments.

The University of Queensland's Institute of Modern Languages (IML) and ICTE Community Education Programs will offer fun non-degree programs in January enabling people to take a holiday with a difference as "intellectual tourists".

Summer language courses available at the IML in January, February and March, 2000, include classes for beginners and intermediate students in Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Indonesian Italian, Japanese and Spanish.

There is a special summer high school program for Years 10 to 12 from January 24-28 2000, and new programs such as Il Cinema Italiano and Surfing the Net in German.

Many people who attend IML courses are keen to brush up language skills before undertaking international holidays. Although IML languages courses are not for degree credit, Certificates of Attendance will be issued and formal language testing is available.

Other IML Services include part-time courses offered in 20 languages, home-based courses, in-house language programs for business, customised tuition, translation and interpreting services, and language proficiency testing.

For further information, contact the IML office, telephone 07 3365 6490 or see the IML home page http://www.iml.uq.edu.au
